I took this image at the Grand Canyon. Although this location was not in the center of the path of greatest eclipse, it was pretty close. An annular solar eclipse occurs when the moon's apparent diameter is smaller than the sun's. This blocks most of the sun's light and causes the sun to look like an annulus or ring.
