I took this photo of the transit of Mercury from my backyard in Green Valley, Arizona, at 9:43 AM on May 9, 2016. In this photograph Mercury appears as a small black dot in the lower right. The larger, irregular dark spot up and to the left of Mercury is a small sunspot. A transit of Mercury only occurs about 13 or 14 times every 100 years.
